The Truth About Dental and Oral Health Myths

Posted .

Sometimes dental myths lead people to improperly care for their smile and oral health. This is why Dr. Michael Nguyen and our dental team are happy to set the record straight when it comes to common dental myths circling the world today.

Myth No. 1: It’s normal to have bleeding gums.
If you see a little pink in the sink, it’s important to take caution. This is because bleeding gums is not normal; in fact, it can be a sign of a larger dental problem. So, if your gums tend to bleed, please schedule an appointment with your dentist and carefully clean and care for your smile on a regular basis.

Myth No. 2: String floss is the only tool you can use to clean between your teeth.
Although string floss is very handy and effective, there are other tools you can use to clean between your teeth. Some of those tools include flossing sticks and water flossers. So, please feel free to use any tool you feel is necessary.

Myth No. 3: Your teeth are healthy if they don’t hurt.
Just because you don’t have any toothaches doesn’t mean you don’t have any dental issues. In fact, there are some dental issues that can destroy your smile without you even realizing it. This is why it’s vital to deeply clean your teeth twice a day and visit your dentist every six months, even if your teeth don’t hurt.
